Alzheimer’s Case Study

A 82 years old women living in her own home with Alzheimer’s disease. She was dignosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2004. Her food intake has reduced to half of her usual intake from last couple of months. Considering her anthropometric measurements, although her weight is within the normal ranges, she has experienced unintentional wt loss over the past 2 weeks which places her at increased nutritional risk. This is probably due to worsening of her Alzheimer’s and reduced oral intake. I would want to complete a SGA on her sodium levels is increased which may indicate dehydration due to inadequate fluid intake, She may also be be experiencing chewing and swallowing difficulty due to worsening of her Alzheimer’s disease which impacts her food intake. Our Registered Nurse has referred her for nutritional assessment and currently her intake is meets 55% of her energy and 52% of her protein requirements. and
